We read in books about land owning freed African Americans countlessly being taken advantage of and manipulated into giving their land back, and those stories always evolve around a central theme...knowing the law. Yet we go into these workplaces daily, expecting the people within them to not exploit us, the labor?

A person enduring the type of workplace illegalities on such a blatant and consistent basis, regardless the race of the employer, as we have described in this series, means nothing if we are the only one's who learn from it. According to Strada Education Foundation's data:

52% of college graduates are underemployed in their first job

45% are STILL underemployed after 10 years

First jobs shape long-term earnings trajectory

Black, Latino, and first-generation graduates face the worst outcomes

Being underestimated is now a part of the repertoire of our host, @Ron Corley, II. Its just another day at the office...

After leaving Dorsey, the immediate solution to financial troubles was as a day laborer. Doing back breaking cleaning, clearing and lifting gave our host a new respect for "working men and women". But it also opened his eyes to the exploitation that takes place daily when people need work!

This scenario forces him to take the next best thing...another trucking job, but local. Hoping to make some money and pay down some debt, he meets what black people in low wage labor roles encounter daily....A white wealthy business owner with a white under educated overseer, dictating the day-to-day of black under educated employees. Abuse of power runs rampant and Ron finds out on day 3 just how bad this job is going to be.

And even when he told him who he was and what he did...just like Dorsey, they didn't believe him.

In small to medium businesses, owners tend to think that their operations are too small to worry about employment law matters. In the trucking industry, the largest expansion of black male entrepreneurship, growing from 9% to 16% from 1979-2018. But sometimes, "following the rules" of employment law creates more slender margins than owners wish to get. This can result in wage theft, misclassification of employee status of drivers and conflict resolution issues.

This episode dovetails off of our last conversation around the founding of EROC (End Rape on Campus), a discussion with Annie Clark. In that conversation, Annie mentioned passing the CEO torch to Kenyora Johnson, a capable innovative leader. We also shifted the focus to Kenyora to learn what innovations EROC has in store. We uncovered some of the differing reasons HBCU students fail to report in comparison to the rationales of their PWI (Predominantly White Institutions) counterparts; as well as the role that starting conversations at earlier ages can have on understanding the safety of our children when deciding on higher education.

Along with that, we brought in Renee Best, founder of Anew U Counseling Service, to learn how Sexual Violence hisotries can resurface in the workplace. We discuss how stress, weight fluctuation and other triggers should send red flags to anyone experiencing them to seek help from a therapist. We also dive into how the lack of accountability of abusers at the college level bleeds into the workplace, which, if revealed, can create major setbacks for survivors working to heal.

On this episode, I discuss how #REVGEN leadership and inner circle plotted to weaken the winning streak that I had been on, ensuring that I got dealt the worst hand of resumes to rebuild my dynasty. My success had hurt my internal relationships allowing work politics to leave me high and dry. The lack of accountability of #REVGEN Leaders created problems with clients that I had to fix, working alongside the leader who lead the problem scenario in the first place...which was uncomfortable. And my teams were still decently successful, despite these attempts by these saboteurs.

Big Daddy, and his plantation of Brittle Brothers, where consistently embarrassed by their lack of success in the business that they had all worked within for several years (about 30 years between their core 5 leaders). While I know that our blackness doesn't distinguish us as compromisers to these ends, it does place us in a unique position as one tries to define their identity against the backdrop of such an American history as race. This month clarified that struggle to me in a face-to-face way that it had not been clarified for me before.

Double J(C) Part 3: Mr. Tin Foil, MAGA Conservative manager shows his racism and Anti-Semitism

The veil of kindness, Jesus and freedom masks some of the ugliest social constructions our society has ever seen.

On this, the final episode with Mr. Tin Foil, his mask comes off and we are able to see his hatred and discontent for those he thinks less of clearly. His humanity and the sexual abuse he endured as a child doesn't save him. His father's lack of emotional availability doesn't save him. His family wealth, his desire to walk the path of Jesus, his age all do not save him.

Over the course of this 3 part series, Double J(C) has proclaimed his humanity in efforts that you, the listeners, will hear his pain and excuse the pain he inflicts on others (which he wisely hides on this platform). However, his actions in the workplace became the center of an EEOC investigation focused on racism, creating a toxic work environment and retaliation against a whistle blower that held him accountable for his action. The same accountability that he discusses on these episodes, he repels when the mirror of change catches in the act and exposed his flaws...not as a person (though those surely exist), but as a manager of an organization.

Jathan Blackburn: A Cape-less Hero
